The first woman to run the Boston Marathon will do it again, 50 years later

A 20-year-old journalism student made history in 1967 by becoming the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon.
50 years later, Kathrine Switzer will return to the starting line of the famous race wearing the same number that an official tried to tear off his clothes in 1967.
The incident was captured in an iconic forum that turned Switzer into a role model and launched his career as an advocate for equality for women in sports. Now, with 70 years and 39 marathon runs, it will be the first time to run in Boston since 1976 and its first running since 2011.
